Delete This at Your Peril – Neil Forsyth
Almost everyone has received them: emails from strangers promising vast fortunes, lottery wins, business opportunities or romance, if only you will send a little money first. Most people delete these scam emails without a second thought. Bob Servant does not.
Delete This at Your Peril: The Bob Servant Emails, by Scottish writer Neil Forsyth, collects the hilarious correspondence between Bob Servant, a self-proclaimed former window cleaner and burger van magnate from Broughty Ferry, near Dundee, and the scammers who make the mistake of contacting him. Bob is a comic creation, a boastful, eccentric and endlessly inventive character who replies to the scammers with enthusiasm, outrageous stories and absurd demands of his own.
Instead of falling for the schemes, Bob turns the tables, drawing the scammers into increasingly ridiculous exchanges. He invents business deals, claims to have connections in unlikely places, asks for favors, sends them on pointless errands and wears them down with his relentless self-confidence and rambling anecdotes about life in Broughty Ferry. The scammers’ attempts to stay patient and keep the con going make the exchanges even funnier.
The book became a cult hit in the United Kingdom and inspired further books, a radio series and a television series.
Witty, absurd and very British, Delete This at Your Peril is a perfect gift for anyone who enjoys offbeat humor and has ever been annoyed by spam emails. It contains some strong language and adult humor.
