JD Salinger

Jerome David Salinger (1919–2010) was an iconic American author widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in 20th-century literature. Serving in counterintelligence during World War II, his wartime experiences deeply shaped his literary perspective and sensitivity toward alienation.

He achieved immortality with his classic 1951 novel The Catcher in the Rye, which captured the angst, disillusionment, and phoniness of post-war American adolescence through its unforgettable narrator, Holden Caulfield. He followed this with celebrated collections of short fiction, including Nine Stories and Franny and Zooey.

Salinger’s legendary reclusiveness later in life only deepened the mystique surrounding his brilliant literary output. His works remain timeless masterworks studied and cherished by generations of readers.
