Norman Maclean

Norman Maclean (1902–1990) was an American author, scholar, and professor of English literature at the University of Chicago. Raised in Montana logging camps, his early wilderness experiences deeply shaped his literary voice.

He achieved literary immortality late in life with his semi-autobiographical masterpiece A River Runs Through It and Other Stories, followed by his posthumous historical epic Young Men and Fire.

Maclean’s exquisite lyrical prose, reverence for nature, and profound philosophical reflections on grief and family established him as a classic American literary master.
