Prince Caspian: The Return to Narnia – C.S. Lewis
One year after their adventures in Narnia, the four Pevensie children are waiting at a railway station on their way back to boarding school when they are suddenly pulled out of their world. They find themselves on an island beside the ruins of a once-great castle, and they slowly realize that it is Cair Paravel, where they once reigned as kings and queens, and that hundreds of years have passed in Narnia.
Prince Caspian: The Return to Narnia, by C. S. Lewis, reveals that Narnia has changed. It has been conquered by the Telmarines, human invaders who have silenced the talking animals, driven the dwarfs and other magical creatures into hiding and tried to erase the memory of Aslan and the old ways. The rightful heir to the throne, young Prince Caspian, has fled from his wicked uncle, King Miraz, who has seized power. Caspian has found refuge with the Old Narnians, who are hiding in the woods, and in desperation he has blown Queen Susan’s magical horn, summoning the children to help.
Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy must journey across a changed land to reach Caspian and his followers. Lucy glimpses Aslan, but the others do not believe her at first, and the children must learn to trust and follow him, even when the way is hard. Together with talking animals, dwarfs and the brave mouse Reepicheep, they prepare for a decisive battle to restore Narnia.
Exciting and full of memorable characters, the novel explores faith, courage and the return of goodness to a land that had forgotten it.
Prince Caspian is a classic adventure for children and families, best read after The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.
