The Truth About Forever – Sarah Dessen
Macy Queen’s life is supposed to be perfect. Ever since her father’s sudden death, she has kept her grief locked away behind good grades, neat clothes and a careful routine. She has a smart, steady boyfriend, Jason, a predictable summer job at the library information desk, and a plan for everything. And she has built a life where nothing can surprise her again.
Then Jason goes away for the summer and suggests they take a break, and Macy finds herself stepping in to help Wish Catering, a chaotic, warmhearted crew whose events never go quite according to plan. There she meets Wes, an artist with a troubled past who makes sculptures from scraps and plays an ongoing game of Truth with her, in which every question must be answered honestly. Little by little, among spilled appetizers, late-night drives and unexpected friendships, Macy begins to let go of her need for control and to face the feelings she has buried, while her mother struggles with grief of her own.
The Truth About Forever is funny, tender and wise, and it is one of Sarah Dessen’s most beloved novels, a story about grief, healing and finding the courage to live a less-than-perfect life.
Dessen writes with great sensitivity about the quiet ways families cope with loss, and about the friends who help us find our way back.
A must-read for fans of heartfelt young adult fiction and summer romance, The Truth About Forever is a story readers return to again and again.
