Eat Right 4 Your Type – Peter J. D’Adamo
Could your blood type determine which foods are best for you? In Eat Right 4 Your Type: The Individualized Diet Solution to Staying Healthy, Living Longer and Achieving Your Ideal Weight, naturopathic physician Peter J. D’Adamo, writing with Catherine Whitney, proposes that it does.
D’Adamo argues that each of the four main blood types, O, A, B and AB, reflects a different stage of human evolution and is associated with particular dietary needs. Based on this theory, he recommends different eating plans for each group. For example, he associates type O with a diet higher in animal protein, type A with a more vegetarian diet, type B with a varied diet including dairy, and type AB with a mix of the approaches recommended for types A and B.
For each blood type, the book provides lists of foods to emphasize and avoid, meal plans, recipes and exercise recommendations, as well as advice on supplements and stress management. D’Adamo also discusses how he believes blood type relates to susceptibility to certain illnesses.
The book became an international bestseller and has a devoted following. However, scientific studies have found no evidence that matching diet to blood type provides the health benefits claimed, and the theory is not supported by mainstream nutrition science or medicine.
Eat Right 4 Your Type will interest readers curious about the history of popular diet trends. It is not a substitute for medical advice, and readers should consult a doctor or registered dietitian before making significant changes to their diet.
