Carry On – Rainbow Rowell
Simon Snow is the worst Chosen One who has ever been chosen.
At least, that is what his roommate Baz thinks, and Baz is evil, a vampire and Simon’s nemesis. In his final year at the Watford School of Magicks, Simon has plenty of other problems too. He cannot control his own enormous power, his girlfriend has broken up with him, his mentor the Mage keeps sending him away, and a mysterious monster called the Insidious Humdrum, which looks exactly like Simon as a child, is wreaking havoc across the magical world.
Then Baz fails to show up at school, and Simon cannot stop worrying about where he is and what he is plotting. When Baz finally returns, the two reluctant roommates find themselves forced to work together to uncover the truth about the death of Baz’s mother, and along the way they discover that their feelings for each other are far more complicated than hatred.
Carry On began as the fan fiction written by Cath, the heroine of Rainbow Rowell’s novel Fangirl, and Rowell turned it into a full story of its own. The result is a witty, affectionate and inventive take on the Chosen One tale, full of magic, romance and humor.
Told from multiple points of view, Carry On is a delight for fans of fantasy, young adult romance and stories that playfully subvert familiar genres. It is the first book in the Simon Snow trilogy.
